In a milestone moment, City View Charter School celebrated its 20th anniversary on September 28, 2024, along with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of its brand-new facility. This exciting event brought together school staff, students, families, and community members to honor the school’s two decades of dedication to hands-on, project-based learning in the Hillsboro community.
A Legacy of Innovation and Growth
Founded in 2004 by a passionate group of parents, City View Charter School has long embraced the EL Education model (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning). This approach focuses on nurturing students through engaging, real-world learning experiences. Over the years, the school has consistently evolved, providing students with the skills and knowledge to thrive academically and personally.
The new facility is an important chapter in City View’s history, consolidating its K-8 educational offerings under one roof while accommodating over 400 students. This expansion also includes the launch of a Pre-School program, offering the youngest learners access to the same innovative EL Education opportunities that have shaped the school’s reputation for excellence.
A Community-Driven Vision
Nicole Kopacz, Executive Director of City View Charter School, expressed her enthusiasm about the school’s growth. “This move represents an incredible step forward for our school,” Kopacz said. “We are thrilled to continue our mission of providing hands-on, meaningful learning experiences while expanding access to even more students and families.”
The Washington County Chamber of Commerce, a long-time supporter of City View Charter School, joined in the celebration. Reflecting on the school’s contribution to the community, Deanna Palm, President and CEO of the Chamber, shared her pride in their accomplishments. “City View Charter School’s dedication to innovative education has made a lasting impact on our community. We’re proud to celebrate this extraordinary milestone with them and look forward to their continued success.”
Looking Ahead
As City View Charter School looks to the future, the new facility will serve as a hub for creativity, growth, and community engagement. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was not just a celebration of the past 20 years but also a look ahead at what the school can achieve in the next 20.
